Art I, II, III

Students explore the works of art and architecture from modern times through various styles. Students will compare and contrast their art work. They will apply what they learn by creating their own artwork with paint and other forms of mixed media. Emphasis is placed on controlling various media, methods, surfaces, design problems, and the appropriate media selection process. Upon completion, students should be able to produce quality illustrations from conception through finished artwork.

Journalism/Yearbook

The first half of the school year is spent developing a quality yearbook for the school. Students learn the importance of a budget, how to sale ads, design pages, create tag lines, and edit photos. During the last half of the school year, students examine the development of journalism, from print to the multimedia environment, while learning how to publish an online newspaper. Students write newspaper-style articles and opinion pieces, and examine careers in multimedia communication. They also consider the historical effects of "yellow" journalism, freedom of the press, and journalism's contributions to today's world, with an emphasis on the mutual influence of media and policy.

Sports and Fitness Education

This course focuses on weightlifting basics with an emphasis in proper movement and strength development. Activities and topics include: benefits of weightlifting, proper lifting and spotting techniques, cardiovascular fitness, and power strength, and endurance skills.

Psychology Honors

This course is designed to introduce students to the field of psychology as a scientific discipline concerned with the study of behavior. The course will cover such topics as human development, motivation, emotion, perception, learning, personality, intelligence, measurement and applied areas. The course integrates biblical principles related to each topic of study. This course is a good preparation for those who would qualify for AP psychology. 

AP Psychology

AP Psychology engages students in the basic aspects of a college introduction to psychology course. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: scientific methods, human development, sensation, perception, states of consciousness, learning, memory, language, intelligence, motivation, emotion, and personality. Also studied are various types of psychological disorders and therapies. The goal of the class is not only for the students to master the material and be fully prepared for the AP Psychology exam, but also to establish a Biblical view of the world of psychology and understand how it can apply to the lives of Christians.

Spanish I

This course will introduce the basics of the Spanish language. It will tech students to communicate through vocabulary and grammar lessons. Students will be able to use speech, reading & writing to communicate the Spanish language on a basic conversational level.

Spanish II

This course will build on the Spanish I course. There will be added emphasis on conversation and writing. A higher level of grammar and additional verb tenses will be introduced.

Spanish III

This course will build on the Spanish II course. There will be emphasis on conversation and writing. The highest level of grammar and additional verb tenses will be introduced.

Physical Education

Students receive an overview of why physical fitness is important and how to prepare for workouts through stretching. Students engage in daily activities at the park or here on campus. Students learn about the body's major muscle groups and how to exercise them safely and effectively. They also learn what nutrients their body needs and how their body processes different types of food.

Technical Theatre

Students will explore technical theatre, design, and non-performance aspects of theatre through activities, exercises, and field study with emphasis on creative thinking, problem solving and collaboration.

Theatre Education

Students will explore acting and directing through exercises, improvisations, informal and formal productions with emphasis on relaxation; concentration of attention; imagination; physical and vocal choices; ensemble; scene study; and monologues.

Web Design

This course introduces the creation of web graphics, and addressing problems peculiar to WWW display using appropriate software. Topics include web graphics file types, optimization, RGB color, web typography, elementary special effects, transparency, animation, slicing, basic photo manipulation, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to create graphics, such as animated banners, buttons, backgrounds, logos, and manipulate photographic images for Web delivery.

Internships

On Campus/Off Campus internships are offered for those who complete an intern application, essay, and receive administrative approval. Internships include the following areas: education, ministry, business, veterinary, medical, banking, etc. The Guidance Office may explore other options upon a researched request and passion/skill of the student.

Advanced Vocals

Students will study the art of vocal production as well as participate in vocal solo and ensemble singing which include the art of sight singing and advanced music theory. The students will participate in ACSI Music Festivals in the vocal solo and vocal ensemble categories.

Physics Honors

Students study the basic concepts of physics using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Topics include vector algebra, motion, gravity, work, energy, momentum, angular momentum, conservation laws, thermodynamics, vibrations, and waves.

AP Art

Students will work with diverse media, styles, subjects, and content. Each of the three portfolios consists of three sections:

The Breadth section illustrates a range of ideas and approaches to art making.

The Concentration section shows sustained, deep, and multi-perspective investigation of a student-selected topic.

The Quality section represents the student’s most successful works with respect to form and content

Art Appreciation (Honors) (College)

This is a college level course which introduces the origins and historical development of art. Emphasis is placed on the relationships of design principles to various art forms including but not limited to sculpture, painting, and architecture. Upon completion, students should be able to identify and analyze a variety of artistic styles, periods, and media. 

Sociology (Honors) (College)

This is a college level course which introduces the scientific study of human society, culture, and social interactions. Topics include socialization, research methods, diversity, and inequality, cooperation and conflict, social change, social institutions, and organizations. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of sociological concepts as they apply to the interplay among individuals, groups, and societies.

Business Communications

This course provides a survey of the business world. Topics include the basic principles and practices of contemporary business. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of business concepts as a foundation for studying other business subjects. An emphasis is placed on communication, leadership principles, and business ethics.
