Reading Enrichment
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades
Faith Christian School offers a reading enrichment course
for third, fourth, and fifth grade students who are academically gifted in
reading, language arts, and thinking skills. The students are taken
out of the regular classroom and join a small multi-age group of up to
twelve students. The third and fourth grade students work together as
one class, and the fifth grade students make up a separate group. The “Great
Books” class meets four days per week for fifty minutes per class period.
The students use the Junior Great Books Curriculum of interpretive reading,
writing, and discussion. This curriculum stresses reading
comprehension, excellence in writing, critical thinking, and effective
speaking and listening skills. The stories that are included in the
Junior Great Books Curriculum are rich works of literature by acclaimed
authors. As students interact with the stories in the text, comparisons are
made between the story, the author’s purpose, and Biblical truth. The Junior
Great Books Curriculum proves to be challenging and fun for our students.
